Abscheiden

separation |ˌsepəˈrā sh ən|nounthe action or state of moving or being moved apartthe division of something into constituent or distinct elements
Pfft. Who says you can't cut off fingers. Well actually... Everyone.
I guess what i've come up with could be used as a spark to an ongoing project, i really like the way these
photos came out. It all revolves around the state of separation. Whether it be (the obviously implied)
color, race, or (delving further) simply two people that, revolve around each other, but never touch
It could be a separation of ideals, of ideas that are read as either black or white--but sometimes need to
register at middle grey. It could be a physical separation of distance, time--or an emotional separation
from the rest of humankind. The idea--the state of separation will always exist, and each separation and
source of seperation will ultimatly differ from person to person. Its about recognizing that separation exists
--making it easier to weave back into an interlacing midpoint.

Older Chests

Older chests reveal themselves, like a crack in a wall
Starting small, and grow in time. And we all seem to
need the help of someone else, to mend that shelf
of too many books.

Its odd, feeling stuck between two places you call home. This bedroom was my safe haven--now it feels like i'm
floating amidst boxes that will never be fully unpacked. Where do I belong? Oh, I'm just overanalyzing again... But
who do you run to at 3:14 am when the world has gone to bed? Who do you talk to when you can't seem to
expel any words from your frustrated mouth? You lie awake until your eyelids can't possibly exert any
more flutters, you delve into music that lets your brain rest for a moment. You let go. Maybe the one thing I
have yet to learn how to do in my eighteen years of living is to simply--let go. I've spent years of my life holding
onto baggage I can't seem to unpack, just like the luggage filled room that is strewn out in front of me. Why?
I need to find space to put everything.
I need to find a release--and I think I'm beginning to conceptualize it.

Damaged Casting

Elephant skin: Hardened, solid crevices. Markings upon grey like a map. Every inch, scarification from
The hardness you hold within your heart

Elephant eyes. Pools of soft benevolence. Windows tunneling to the soul. Every glance, chills radiating within
The tissue that holds the thick of your bones.

Remember, remember...

[Creds to Carrie]
I am madly in love with the fall, the foliage--spinning circles around you in Harvard Yard.
Sometimes the smallest gestures can be the most beautiful.
And I adore it.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

Perhaps, A tad stirring?
Who thought I'd be working on all of this jazz... What an odd
theme. Got to say--I do like it though. MORE TO COME!
Photoshoot #2, sucess! Still haven't uploaded the negatives from the first photoshoot yet.
I haven't even developed the negatives from yesterday, so we'll see how the actual photos
turn out! I'm crossing my fingers! Despite all of the work,  I'm really enjoying myself here.
OH--AND LOOK--A FENCE POST.

Drawin' up a STURM

This is basically a load of random work i've been doing in drawing fundamentals,
including the rather creepy sculpture head that I definitely did not shade correctly,
and lots of figure drawing to start mapping out the human body. Just experimenting!

My roommates and I did these collaborative abstract-y paintings the second day of school.
OH, DID I MENTION I LOVE MY ROOMMATES?

September Band Photaaaawg

Lately I've been shooting roll after roll of film, so I really don't have much to
show for this semester so far--too lazy to get the scanner out? Somewhat. More
like--I HAVE NO TIME. Classes are picking up and the work output is slowly
increasing. I have managed to shoot some digital work, and i FINALLY got my
hands on aperture (though I haven't tested it out quite yet.) Here's to the close of the
first month of school Mates'. September, and buckets  of band Photaaaawg. =)
[This band opened up for State Radio, before I had to run to Tamanny Hall for Continental]
I missed their name, can't seem to find it anywhere...
Continental Shoot:
September 13th, Tamanny Hall, Worcester MA
Definitely still getting my feet wet here, but I'm having fun with it =). Check them out!

September 20th, Memorial Hall, Plymouth MA

And then...
Joe Perry
So apparently Joe Perry has his own side project going, and is touring a bit around the area.
I was really fortunate to get in on this, he's a really interesting subject to photograph. The
crazy 70's-80's wardrobe definitely photographs well. Oh. And he drinks Perrier water.
Perrier. Perry. Perrier. Perry.
HMMMMMMMMM.
[With Continental. This was pretty wild.]

AND THATS ALL FOLKS!
Well. Not even the tip of the iceberg actually. I should have film up
fairly soon. If i don't get absolutely buried in homework and printing.

Holy Shit Batman

1. So odd to be going to college
I.E. Packing up eighteen years of your life into boxes.
2. There is a mouse living in my kitchen. He comes out every night around 1am. Especially
when I'm playing music--Andrew Bird in particular. It's actually quite strange. He's really friendly.
3. I'm trying to research night photography, landscape style. So as always, I'm experimenting.
[More to come, most likely.]
It was unseasonably cold tonight. I was wearing a winter jacket while out shootin'
UH. ITS AUGUST.

Tonight

Monday, August 24, 2009

Being alone--it can be quite romantic. Like Jacques Cousteau underneath the atlantic...

What a week!
Completely swooning over Andrew Bird's Weather Systems Album.
And basically his entire discography. Such a fantastic artist. Esquire quotes, "Bird could be the
only performer who's lit up both Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo with a combination
of vocals, violin, guitar, glockenspiel and whistling... he uses centuries-old
instrumentation to give depth and soul to folk rock." Sounds like an interesting chap
to me! Lately I've been collecting a number of salvaged vintage jewelry pieces. Courtesy of family
heirlooms (costume jewelery) via my Grandmother, and fantastic give-aways from Jenny.
My favorite piece...
is the oriental bracelet I got to take home. I remember playing with it when I was really little.

Bearing signs on the avenues, for your own personal waterloo, now.

[Quality got butchered...but alack. There you go.]
OH. I bought ANOTHER pair of shoes.
Someone, please, take me away. I need serious retail detox haha. Getting the in camera B+W
filter out again, I missed it! Though it will never truly combat B+W film photography, I still like
the look of it. OH. FUN FACT. T-Minus 15 days until I move to Cambridge. SUPER EXCITED.

Scituate Photo Shoot

[Scituate, MA]
The one obstacle I never really attempted to overcome is--working on landscape photography.
I have so much room for improvement, and I am happy to say that it will be my next target.
Breaking out of my comfort zone baby!
However, my favorite genre, and often my niche, is Portraits.
I absolutely love portraiture, and working with people in general. Its just in my nature. I love
analyzing different personalities--discovering how they function, how you can relate to the
comparisons and contrasts within each opposing disposition. Especially within photography.
A natural photograph can spew so many raw characteristics of a person out into the open.
